RSO Chocolate Dipped Mangoes
Mangoes and dark chocolate are known to have many health benefits, from boosting your immune system, to helping your body fight off cancer. Who would have thought such a sweet treat had so many great benefits?!
I personally love dark chocolate for many reasons and the combo with mangoes couldn’t be any better! Before I dive into the Chocolate Dipped Mango recipe, I want to give you an overview of some of their health benefits.
Mangoes are a natural immune booster. Just one cup of dried mangoes provides about a quarter of the daily target the body needs of vitamin A and about 75% of the daily intake of vitamin C. Vitamin A is essential for a proper functioning immune system and can help keep the hair follicles moisturized and healthy. Vitamin C helps produce collagen and can help prevent wrinkles and sagging skin. Two antioxidants found in mangoes, lutein and zeaxanthin, help support eye health by protecting them from ultra-violet rays and fight or slow the progression of cataracts and macular degeneration.
Surprisingly, dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants. According to Toby Amidor, RD, a cookbook author and Nutrition Expert for the Food Network, claims that dark chocolate “can have more antioxidants than green tea or red wine.” Dark chocolate made with 70% cacao or higher is the best to look for when thinking of “healthy” chocolate and can have added benefits like, potentially lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation. Epicatechin and quercetin are two flavonoids found in chocolate that are believed to be responsible for cancer-fighting properties. Dark chocolate has caffeine in it; however, it also contains serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that can help you relax and fall asleep.
With all this information, I decided to combine mangoes, dark chocolate, and THC to help aid in a full night’s sleep. To achieve this, I looked for an RSO that contained a high THC potency and made from an indica strain. Indicas tend to be more relaxing and heavy hitting when it comes to cannabis. I decided to go with LA Cheese RSO from Shelby County Community Services since it was testing at about 75% THC and had a small amount of CBN as well. CBN is another cannabinoid in marijuana just like THC and CBD, only CBN plays a major role in helping our bodies fall asleep.
Don’t be afraid to mix it up with this recipe. I knew what effects I wanted to achieve when searching for the strain to infuse my chocolate with. You don’t have to follow the same recipe as below, try mixing it up with milk chocolate and a hybrid strain RSO or sativa for the daytime!
RSO Chocolate Dipped Mangoes
Yields about 20-30 mangoes depending on package
number of mg THC ÷ number of mangoes = potency
e.g. 75% THC = 750mg THC
750 (full syringe) ÷ 25 = 30mg THC each piece
What you will need:
6oz package of dried mangoes to your choosing (I used store-brand Sweetened Dried Mango Philippine Grown)
5oz Dark Chocolate Candy Melts (I used about half of a 10oz bag of Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate flavored melting wafers with about 50% cacao)
1G 1000mg RSO of your choosing (I used LA Cheese, indica, from Shelby County Community Services)
Parchment Paper
Microwave safe bowl or double boiler
Spoon
Food-Grade Silicone Spatula
Sandwich Baggies
STEP ONE: Melt your chocolate according to the package.
-In most cases, melting chocolate will have two directions to follow: one for the microwave, and one for a double boiler if you have one. Choose the method that suits you best! I followed directions according to the microwave method. That is what is described below.
-Defrost chocolate candies in microwave for 30 seconds on medium heat
-Stir
-Set microwave on medium heat and place chocolate melts in microwave for 1min - Taking the candies out in 15 second intervals to stir until melted.
STEP TWO: Lay out parchment paper
STEP THREE: Run RSO syringe under hot water to loosen up the product a bit and then infuse your chocolate!
STEP FOUR: Stir well. And I mean, stir until your arms can’t stir anymore. You really want to make sure all of the RSO is mixed into the chocolate as best as you can. This makes it so your dosage is as even as possible.
STEP FIVE: Dip mangoes and lay on parchment paper
-Over time, the chocolate will start to coagulate a bit. Don’t worry, if you’re using good quality chocolate melts, it will be easy to stir up a bit and be malleable again. (This is another great reason to use Ghirardelli chocolates. It melts well and easy to stir up. Store-brand chocolate will harden up quickly and make it really difficult to stir and dip the mangoes.)
-Use the spatula to remove any excess chocolate from around the bowl and the spoon. Try and use as much of the chocolate as you can.
STEP SIX: If you have leftover chocolate, there are a number of things you can do. My personal favorite is to fill candy molds and have infused chocolate candy for later.
-Use the excess chocolate for chocolate dipped strawberries
-Use the excess chocolate for chocolate dipped pretzels
The options are limitless! Have fun and enjoy the ride!
